Equipment

  • Shinai – bamboo sword with which we train kendo 
  • Keiko-gi – a training jacket, an element of clothing for a kendo player 
  • Hakama – long, wide pants, a piece of clothing for a kendo player
  • Men – a mask to protect the head, throat and shoulders
  • Men Himo – straps that are used to tie a protective men mask 
  • Tenugui – a scarf that we put on under the menus, which absorbs sweat 
  • Kote – gloves (protectors)
  • Do – breastplate, abdomen and breast protectors
  • Do Himo – straps that are used to tie a breastplate (belly and breast protector) 
  • Tare – hip protection (apron), made of multi-layer, densely quilted fabric 
  • Zekken – rectangular piece of cloth showing the name of the player and the name of the club, city or country in which the player is training; it is placed on Tare (more precisely on its middle part called O-dare)
